Oour research has incorporated both quantitative and qualitative approaches to management and conservation-related problems that affect resource-dependent communities. Impacts of environmental degradation on these communities are examined, as are their responses to these changes. Human-related quantitative research takes the form of mail-out questionnaires and directed household interviews, whereas qualitative research is in the form of semi-directed interviews, spatially-referenced community-based mapping, transect walks and video documentation. This research approach generally grounds more conventional ecological studies within the community values and concerns that ultimately make our research relevant.
